CBT Therapy

My approach is practical, skills-based, and backed by decades of research. For more than 20 years, I have enjoyed helping children, adolescents and young adults overcome their difficulties while also focusing on developing their many strengths. I specialize in Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) that is solution focused and clinically proven to be the most effective treatment for children and adolescents who are struggling with Anxiety, Depression, and social difficulties. I have seen an enormous increase in Anxiety and over dependence on social media and substance use as coping mechanisms and have developed an expertise in treating young adults who struggle with these issues.

IQ Evaluations

This evaluation is a comprehensive psychological assessment designed to measure a young person’s intellectual abilities, cognitive strengths, and areas for growth. The evaluation typically includes standardized tests that assess verbal comprehension, perceptual reasoning, working memory, and processing speed—core components that together provide an overall measure of intellectual functioning.
During the evaluation, the psychologist uses developmentally appropriate, research-based tools such as the Wechsler Intelligence Scale for Children – Fifth Edition (WISC-V) or the Wechsler Adult Intelligence Scale (WAIS-IV), depending on the child or adolescent’s age. In addition to numerical scores, the process provides valuable insight into how the child or adolescent approaches problem-solving, learns new information, manages attention, and handles complex or abstract tasks.
Overall, an IQ evaluation is not simply about a number—it’s a tool for understanding how a child or adolescent thinks and learns best, empowering families and educators to support their development with confidence and clarity.

Neuropsychological Evaluations

This evaluation is a comprehensive, in-depth assessment that explores how a young person’s brain functions in relation to their thinking, learning, emotions, and behavior. Unlike brief academic or IQ testing, a neuropsychological evaluation examines the whole picture—how different areas of the brain work together to support attention, memory, problem-solving, language, and emotional regulation.
This evaluation typically includes a detailed clinical interview, a review of developmental and medical history, and standardized testing that assesses a range of cognitive skills such as attention, executive functioning, processing speed, visual–spatial abilities, memory, and language. Emotional and behavioral functioning are also evaluated to understand how psychological factors may influence learning and daily life.
A neuropsychological evaluation is especially helpful for identifying or clarifying conditions such as ADHD, learning disorders, autism spectrum disorders, traumatic brain injury, anxiety, or mood-related difficulties that affect concentration and performance.
Following testing, Dr. Carr provides a thorough report and feedback session outlining the child’s unique cognitive and emotional profile. The results offer practical, individualized recommendations for school, home, and therapy—helping parents, educators, and healthcare providers create supportive environments where the child or adolescent can thrive academically, socially, and emotionally.
